I have come up with some ideas. Okay, let's scratch projection from it. It's entirely in his own helmet, sees a red wireframe of the target with details in runic script (that he can read, since it's basically High Gothic) from his time period. He's able to see in magical darkness, to a distance of about 50 meters (Within effective range of his boltgun). The maximum duration is about 30 minutes a day, and is fairly draining of his soul gem, but not nearly as much as his physical attack powers or defense powers tend to be. The vision will overheat and shut down entirely if he tries to push it past 30 minutes, however.
