STATE OF THE GAME » JANUARY
Hello everyone! We're here to start the New Year off right with a State of the Game!
First things first. We will be instating an always open application cycle. Applications will be reviewed on the Friday of every week.
With this in mind, reserves are also going to change a little. Reserves will last one week from the date they are made. In addition to that, reserve challenges and app challenges will be allowed. A reserve now means that no judgement will be made on any application for that character until either all applications are in, or until the reserve expires.
Applications will be re-opening again on the 11th!
This is a brief overview of what we're going to be accomplishing in the upcoming month:
» Overhaul the FAQ section to include all of the new information players have requested.
» Redo the applications to have passive power and active power as two different sections.
» Add an event calendar and an event suggestion post.
» Set things up for the game opening! A plotting post will go up on the 5th and the intro log will go up on the 8th!
One of the most important things to us as mods is ensuring that we listen to our players and work with them to make the game the best it can be. We want to ensure that you're all getting the most out of the game and that we're doing all we can to make it enjoyable. This includes things like ensuring that players are free to do their own plots (within limits; major player plots do have to be approved by the mods and added to the calendar so we're all on the same page) and offering a platform for players to suggest events they'd like to see to from the mods.
So, we want to know what you want!
» What balance of mod plot to player plot is ideal for you?
» In that line, what balance of Slice of Life do you want to serious plot?
» Is there anything that is still confusing in the premise or FAQ?
» Is there anything you'd like to see explored in the game?
» Anything else? If there's anything at all you want to let us know, please do so. We have an anon enabled mod contact post if there is anything that you want to privately discuss.

In my experience, one mod plot a month (or possibly fewer than that, if there is a already a large player plot in the works that month) seems to be a good balance for things. More than that can be a little overwhelming and make it a little difficult to keep up, and but keeping at that pace keeps the game going forward while allowing people to do their own thing in the time between.
As for the balance between SOL/seriousness, I cant say that I have that much of a preference? It'd be nice if we kept with the original canon in that regard, and kept a bit of Slice of Life involved in the game, especially before the characters find out the twist about Nightmares/Witches.

Plot balance can be tricky but I personally prefer an even mixture of mod plot to player plot and a little more serious plot than pure slice of life. I did come into the game expecting lots of slice of life though and I'm sure others did too considering it says right on the game's profile, "SoL elements". Additionally, I'm another person who thinks one plot a month is pretty sustainable. The longest I'd stretch it personally is one major event every two months.
I think something in the premise that could use clarification is maybe intent, like are events going to be geared toward an overarching plot or is it going to be more episodic or a mixture of both?
Other than that I think you guys are already going to address the parts that were confusing about the app and updating the FAQ with things is also a really helpful move so no one has to pick through comments to find what they're looking for.

I am more interested in seeing magic-related plots coming from the mods, but mostly I'd just like to see the characters' actions having direct results on whatever the plot ends up being - whether that's their magic affecting the real world so the plot one month is a big clean-up after some building collapsed or something about being careful what you wish for, Kyubey being a little snit, etc.
Mostly however I am super excited to see what you guys have planned for us. Very hyped and ready to GO, over here.

Regarding the ratio of SoL to serious plot, I lean more towards SoL taking a backseat to serious plot. With the game being based on an installment in plot-driven series, SoL being a core component raises the risk of the game being too much of a departure from the nature of the canon itself. Keeping more to the tone of the movie would be really nice, I think.
That aside, I'd like to see more information about the setting! What's the atmosphere like in Nyoi-cho? The premise mentions that it's a quaint and pleasant-seeming town, but does it carry a more sinister-seeming undercurrent like the false Mitakihara does in Rebellion? What are the natives like? Things like that, basically! (Within reason, of course, since certain aspects of the setting remaining ambiguous for plot reasons makes perfect sense.)
One last thing: this is just a small suggestion, but while I was writing my app, I found the Superpower Wiki to be a tremendously helpful resource in the way of deciding upon abilities and whatnot! Perhaps it could be linked somewhere to help potential applicants figure out what they might want to give their characters?
With all that out of the way, I'm ridiculously excited for the plotting post and the opening of the game. They can't come soon enough!
