April Event Details

After the chaos that ensued in March, many characters are probably hoping for a break; a chance to recuperate. Unfortunately for them, that break is going to be rather short lived. The Monthly Forecast Starting from the tenth, heavy downpours will hit Nyoi-cho and will continue throughout the rest of that month. By the 14th, most areas will be experiencing moderate flooding. The magi houses, being magical in nature, will be unaffected by this flood. They will not suffer from structural damage, and no water will be able to make it inside the houses. However, they're still small, one-story houses on the outside. This means that by the 17th, the houses will be entirely submerged underwater, and all magi on the inside will be trapped inside while all magi on the outside will be locked out. Mysteriously, the one building in the town that will do surprisingly well during the flood is the old school building. For the initial hours of the flood, all water that makes its way into the building will be drained away quickly. Characters who are in the school during these few hours might be able to find the source of this drain if they search through the rooms on the first floor before the water level rises high enough to force everyone to seek higher ground. For the duration of the event, the third level of the school will remain (for the most part) dry. As a result, characters may find it wise to seek shelter there. The first floor will become inaccessible on the 17th, so latecomers will be forced to find alternative ways to reach the higher levels. Behavioral Malfunction Always facing everything with the same quiet serenity and chipper smiles are the locals, who will take notice of the foul weather and don umbrellas and raincoats in response to it, but will otherwise make no behavioral changes to adjust. They will continue to attempt to go about their days as if everything is normal, wading through ever-rising water levels to make their way to school, their place of employment, and so on. Nothing that the player characters say to them will snap them out of this behavior. Naturally, this means that without assistance, it is likely that they will drown during this event. The Source Appears?! On the 21st, a Nightmare finally shows itself. Familiars will pour out to kidnap anyone they can get their hands on, and nightmarescape exploration will open up. Could this be the source of the nonstop torrent...? THIS PORTION OF THE EVENT IS TIME-SENSITIVE. IT WILL GO UP ON THE 21ST AT 12:00 AM EST AND WILL END, AT THE EARLIEST, ON THE 24TH AT 11:59 PM EST. In Summation... » Starting on the 10th, Nyoi-cho will experience nonstop rain. » The flood will force characters to seek shelter in the school building. » Locals will behave as though nothing is wrong and will drown unless provided assistance. » The Nightmare will appear on the 21st. If Diarmuid uses his empathy to try and influence the locals into recognizing the danger they are in, will he have any success or is this something he just needs to try and see?

So the good news: Pokey will be doing what he can to help the locals, considering they remind him a ton of some kinds of people he knew in Mayfield. He'll be willing to work with anyone organizing efforts to help them out, and thanks to the shield dome he can create, if worst comes to worst he can help others and some civilians weather out the storm.

The bad: he's going to be overexerting himself in trying to help others get through this, to the point he'll probably need someone to help reel him in before he gets himself, and by extension others, hurt in trying to do what he perceives to be the right thing.

Dave doesn't have a single fuck to expend on the locals, but he does give a fuck about Pokey. Quite a few fucks. Probably too many fucks. So don't worry, bro. He's got your back.

Oh boy, so. Dave Strider will most likely not be very useful during this event. His flashstepping abilities would be severely hindered by the water, and his heat manipulation powers - which are tied to his emotions - would begin to go out of control once his stress levels hit sky high. This means that anyone who finds themselves in the water next to Dave might suddenly be wondering why the water is boiling hot.

On the bright side, he does have item alchemization powers, which may allow him to construct tiny lifeboats or maybe ladders and ropes with which one can scale the side of the school building to reach the upper levels.

Madoka will, after the weather clearly doesn't let up, and after she realizes the school is the safest place (since she kind of...goes to school...) gather some supplies from the hospital and hike it over there to try and organize a safe haven for locals and magi. If Miki and Hoshiko in particular try to leave, she'll do her best to stop them. She will also be using her healing powers, in case anyone needs them.

Also she will be very disappointed because she was helping to renovate the school and now its getting flooded, rude Nightmare.

They can take turns watching over those two confused girls... It's not creepy to watch them while they sleep to make sure they don't leave, right?

ok so LILITH will not initially be too worried until the flooding starts up and it becomes clear that the NPCs are um...... being... NPCs.... which will NOT FLY with her because she specifically promised Sachiko that Hoshiko and Miki would be safe in Nyoi-cho no matter what. Really, she won't otherwise be too upset if a random NPC here or there drown, but she is going to try her best to become part of the inevitable Locals Protection Agency, if only to make sure that those two stay safe and dry and well fed with candy. Maybe she'll put on a show for the confused locals; Little Red Riding Hood's Mistake.

She also got Sachiko's number, and will most likely be contacting her at some point to at least let her know what's going on and see if they can get any outside advice or information.

Boy is she going to be extra mad that she still can't fly...

She'll be attempting to come up with something that gets the locals to start coming into the school, making a lie or something or another! Where's our teleportation magi?! Her closed space will at least provide a dry spot for a few seconds while someone needs it??

B.B. Hood is gonna be looking out for number one, for the most part. She might be one of the last people in the school at least, so if anyone wants to hold her under, now's the time. :V

Mafuyu is canonically a terrible swimmer, and as the water gets deeper she might start freaking out about drowning. Having a buddy to keep an eye on her (and her keep an eye on them, of course) would definitely help ease her mind.

Asriel will be using his vines to yank people out of the water! This goes for both locals and magi who can't swim. So if anyone needs to be carried out of the flood Spiderman-style, Asriel's your magi for the job.

Also I want Asriel to share ghost stories/have kid shenanigans with people taking shelter in the school.

So Dirk spent a month recovering from Valentines day and will DEFINITELY be giving a hand rescuing people. He's an exceptionally strong swimmer and will be doing his damndest to help people out. If you need someone to save you from drowning, he's probably your dude.

Sollux can't swim. If you want to save him that's definitely an option. He will probably try to drown you though. "Accidentally"

The Doll will be at this event, using her Messengers to gently guide people away from the water. She isn't really strong-willed enough to really fight people if they're super insistent to walk to their deaths in the water. So she'll do a lot better when paired with someone else than she will by herself.

She, herself, can't really swim on her own. But she's made of wood so I imagine she just kind of awkwardly floats like a piece of very-well dressed driftwood. If anyone wants to find her like that, let me know.

Jade is a strong swimmer, so she'll be doing her best to rescue anyone she finds drowning. Unfortunately, her powers won't be of much use, aside from letting her carry adults instead of just fellow bitties, so she might need a hand getting to the upper floors with her rescuees, even if it's just giving her some sort of hand/clawholds to climb with.

Gaige, lacking the concept of the value of life, will probably not concern herself too much with the locals. If they wanna drown, then it's their own damn fault. Plus, having a cybernetic limb will make swimming kind of hard for her. But if anybody would want the chance for some CR, or just hang out with her, I'm all for it!

It's a freebie, Gaige only gets her life saved once before Bonnie starts charging :V

Garviel is an excellent swimmer, but likely will forget he's no longer an Astartes and run headlong into his human limitations of exhaustion and how long he can hold his breath, so it's likely a good chance he may start drowning at some point.

After Azula's loss at the hands of a skilled Waterbender she tends to loath the rain and the higher the water rises the worse her mood will get. If submerged in water she'll start to panic so it would take something significant for her to be of any help. Which is unfortunate because with her wings she would probably be helpful evacuating people.

Would anyone like to step up and try to keep an eye on her or ya know...keep her from hurting herself or anyone else with panic driven fire blasts?

She's going to be so humiliated when this is over.

Lilith will probably make fun of her briefly before realising that's an asshole move... it's not nice to make fun of scared people......... She'll try to get her to make it to the school, though!

Sandy is a pretty strong swimmer, though if she uses her stone skin while in the water she'll sink...you know. Like a stone. That could prove useful for finding people trapped or fighting against currents while she can still put her feet on the ground.

She's kind of short though so we'll see how long that last.

She's keep to help usher the people in the right direction using her speed and what force she can muster. Or at the very least gathering supplies.

She'll be feeling nostalgic too because it rained almost all the time back home.

So Mikleo isn't going to understand his powers just yet, so a water Seraph not knowing what to do in the middle of a flood will be interesting. Unless at some point before this he sort of gets a feel for his powers by now. Although part of me wants to say that he'd be outside of his house because I feel he'd more interactive if he wasn't trapped in his house. I'd like for him to help out with the flood somehow.

Sometime before the nightmare appears, I'd really like for him to have an idea on his powers, but I'm not totally sure how to have him figure them out right away. I'd love if he could somehow join someone on a witch hunt sometime before this at some point or something like it. The most obvious reason being that I'd love for him at actually help out with the Nightmare when it appears.

Raven Queen's mirror abilities... don't really help much in this situation. But she'll be on team GET THESE PEOPLE TO SAFETY BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, even if it means threatening them or trying to scare them.

Sorey canonically can't swim, but he'll be doing his best to help the townspeople get to safety! He's most likely going to be trapped at the school when the water rises high enough. Whoops.

Also, his active power is fire manipulation, so...he'll be mostly useless other than to make campfires for people. He doesn't know that this is his active power, but he'll be taking a lucky guess based on his outfit's color scheme. On the other hand, Sorey's retrocognition power is gonna be very difficult to figure out other than by accident, so I guess it balances out. Most likely, this one won't be useful for the current situation. And he's totally gonna join in the Nightmare fight by throwing himself at it. Selfless Hero Trope in action.

So according to the mod's answer to my question, the NPCs in the city will be able to be affected by Diarmuid's empathy. However, he has to be careful not to push them into being afraid or panicking because they will become catatonic then! What an interesting reaction...

It's almost like something is fighting against his influencing of them. Some kind of brainwashing or programming?

It's something we can puzzle out later, but for now, I would really like to have chances to play with this during the event. Anyone up for a few threads with him where NPCs are reacting oddly?

Also, Diarmuid is a strong swimmer, so he can help anyone get people, supplies etc to the school. He can also save anyone who needs saving. Just let me know! :-)

Shinoa will be looking for someone to camp out with for the week once it starts to flood! She's been here for two Nightmares, so she'll start suspecting that this is Nightmare business pretty quick and be stocking up supplies for the worst.

She's also very bad at swimming, if she can swim at all- there are no bodies of water shown in canon that haven't been polluted to hell and back, so I'm headcanoning that she never had a reason to learn. So depending on who she hides out with, if she finds someone to hide out with at all, I'm not sure how useful she'll be during the event itself.

She'd be willing to help the locals, but by the time they realize that the locals are going to drown the water level may be too high for her to be of much use, whoops. So her participation this event will be pretty dependent on support from the rest of the team! (I.e. I'll be winging it as usual I guess lol)

Lilith'll be making sure that Shinoa is somewhere safe, at the very least! She's gonna be at the school if you want a reason for Shinoa to be there, but as long as she's dry and not in danger or scared, this gal trusts Shinoa to not do anything TOO stupid...

Here's a summary of Sollux's likely actions during the month. Possible thread ideas are in bold, so if you'd like to plan out anything just respond and let me know! o9

Sollux can't swim. Like, at all. Also he is basically never leaving his house so he will likely get trapped inside. If anyone wanted to try and rescue/convince him to leave. That would be super, let me know.

Sollux doesn't like being around large groups of people he doesn't know, so if he does take shelter at the school with the others, as I imagine he inevitably will, he will likely stay in a corner and not talk to anyone. If anyone wanted to bug him about his asocial behavior I certainly would appreciate it.

Even though he can't swim, Sollux will be trying to help with any local rescue attempts. He will also yell loudly at the locals for being morons. If anyone want's to stop him from harassing NPCs that's definitely a thread possibility. Also, since he can't swim it's probably a good idea if someone convinces him to leave the saving to other people.

When it comes time for the battle, Sollux will almost certainly overexert himself healing people by taking on their own injuries or darkening his soul gem through heavy use of his rocket launcher. Someone to keep an eye on him during this would be definitely welcome.

The Idea

By the end of the month Sollux will likely have a much better handle on human tech. So after the appearance of a second big bad in Nyoi-Cho Sollux will make a suggestion to the other PC's. Following Madoka's lead via note-taking, he will suggest everyone add any information they have on Nightmares to a single webpage that can be accessed by anyone in their group. It's unlikely trolls have wiki's since they don't do cooperation really, but human internet has a ton of them, so his suggestion will be to create a "Magi Wiki" with pages on nightmares and magi abilities for strategizing purposes. It could also be used to create info pages for newcomers, but Sollux won't think to do that so someone would have to suggest it to him.



The Response

Anyway, he will probably make a post about this at the end of the month, after the fight, but if there's ooc interest in this happening I am more than happy to actually make a wiki for the characters to post to. Right now I just want to see if anyone would actually be interested in this and gauge IC response to this idea.

Shinoa's response to this is heck yeeeeeeessss. Any attempt by this group to get themselves in order is much appreciated. She's helped Dave in setting up a physical bulletin board, but a website's going to be a whole lot more convenient.

As far as an actual wiki goes I'm not too sure if the players have the extra time and energy to set it up/ update it accordingly, so I'm undecided on that. But both Shinoa and I really dig the idea of a webpage happening in-verse!

Etna will just be floating around on top of a Prinny (that's faced down) while being the lazy girl she is. Seriously, it's not like she's being paid to help out here, and it's not even like fighting Nightmares where there's at least a positive outcome for her.

So yeah, don't expect much in the way of help from her. She might go and steal everything she can though! So if anyone wants to catch her looting that could be fun! Could always use more CR with everyone!

Alice will be in her home until she sees the water coming up, and then once she sees that people are trying to help out, might/might not lend her assistance. It depends on how she feels.
